Location: Juba, South Sudan
Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is currently recruiting for the position of a Head of Programmes – South Sudan, who will be responsible for the development, design and management/monitoring of the country programmes and for ensuring the Islamic Relief South Sudan programme responds to current humanitarian and development trends related in the country. The HoP will have a direct line report to the HoM and be a member of the Country Management Team.
The role will provide strategic direction to the programme, to ensure it works towards reducing poverty in a sustainable manner and responds to emergencies effectively. This would include the post-holder taking a lead role in the annual strategic planning process. The role will also make key decisions in relation to the programme implementation, and offer solutions to problems that arise during the implementation of programmes. The successful candidate will, furthermore, actively participate in the Country Management Team, build relationships with donors and other INGOs in Sudan, and assist the programme team to develop, finalise and closely monitor the programme budget.
It is essential that the candidate has a University degree or its equivalent in management, social science, international development, public administration, or a related field. This is required to be coupled with experience of working with various International NGOs in developing countries, and an in depth understanding of national and international development issues in particular in relation to community development. The candidate must have good interpersonal skills including the ability to listen, sensitivity to other peoples’ views and perspectives, and conflict resolution. In addition, s/he must also have excellent written and spoken English. Knowledge of foreign languages i.e. Arabic, local country language, etc., with experience of working specifically towards, and reporting against Millennium Development Goals is considered to be desirable for this role.
