Islamic Relief UK (IRUK) is actively recruiting for the position of ‘Campaigns and Public Affairs Coordinator’ to join its Communications Team based from its Waterloo Office, London. The organisation is currently working to a hybrid working model.
The purpose of the role is to coordinate and deliver Islamic Relief’s campaigns to influence policy on the organisation’s priority advocacy objectives, and to support the organisation’s public affairs work through the organisation and sponsorship of events. The role is responsible for recruiting and developing relationships with supporters of Islamic Relief, including community activists. You will also be supporting IRUK’s campaigning in the UK by using a range of tactics to influence politicians and/or key decision-makers, including mobilising our supporters to take actions such as attending public events, organising discussions in their community, signing petitions, and contacting and meeting their elected representatives.
The successful candidate must have or be:
- Excellent written communication skills including the ability to write with impact and producing concise outputs for a range of different audiences
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including the ability to build and maintain coalitions and campaign partnerships
- Strong verbal communication skills with enthusiasm and experiences in explaining complex concepts to non-specialist audiences.
- Strong campaigns planning and delivery skills.
- Strong project management and team coordination skills, including ability to use/produce GANTT charts and/or other planning tools.
- Strong networking and people skills
- Strong budget management skills, including ability to manipulate and present data using Excel.
- Skilled at negotiating with suppliers and vendors.
- Good knowledge of the British Muslim community including a strong understanding of the key stakeholders and representative bodies.
- Good knowledge of the UK political landscape including the relation between constituents and elected representatives and the types of policy processes relevant to a humanitarian and development NGO.
- Experience of developing relationships with different types of stakeholders – including supporters, staff, parliamentarians and civil society
- Experience of working within communications, campaigns or advocacy role including messaging, public positioning, supporter engagement and NGO coordination mechanisms
- Experience of mobilising supporters to take campaign actions, providing a range of was for people to make change
- Experience of generating creative concepts with minimal supervision
- Experience of managing projects to tight and changing deadlines with the ability to prioritise workloads.
- Experience of leading and facilitating workshops, brainstorms and training sessions for supporters
- Experience of managing public-facing communication or advocacy projects from conception through to delivery
- Experience of planning and managing a budget in a professional environment
- Experience of working across cultural differences and in a variety of cultural contexts.
