Islamic Relief Worldwide are currently recruiting for the position of a Humanitarian Shelter and Settlements Advisor. The post holder will develop a global shelter strategy based on an understanding of Islamic Relief’s current and past shelter related work. S/he will establish longer term shelter partnership with other peer agencies engaged in shelter and settlement programme response and strategic engagement with the Global Shelter Cluster. The post holder will lead on developing shelter quality standards and engage with Islamic Relief’s country teams in ensuring our shelter projects are of a consistent high standard.
The successful candidate must have or be:
- Professional qualification in shelter-related sciences preferred (e.g. architecture, civil/structural engineering)
- Extensive experience in the shelter sector including working in emergency response operations in difficult, challenging environments.
- Strong experience of developing and implementing strategies in humanitarian contexts.
- Experience of humanitarian representation with evidence of impact or influencing policy makers
- The ability to work under pressure and balance operational and strategic objectives and priorities
