We are looking for a Senior Policy Adviser to facilitate the review and development of Islamic Relief Worldwide’s core policies on poverty, humanitarianism and development. As the suitable candidate you will also be responsible for developing and updating our current external policy portfolio and lead our contribution to influence government and institutional strategies and policy on aid and development.
Constantly updating and refining your analysis through engagement with scholars and academics, you will work with partners and field offices to provide leadership and turn policy into action, whilst building alliances and providing wider influence in the NGO community and beyond.
We are looking for applicants ideally educated to Master’s level or above in a relevant area, who can demonstrate they have knowledge of policy development in the humanitarian or development field, a deep understanding of Islamic faith teaching in relation to these issues and an awareness of the current debates surrounding poverty, humanitarian and development issues.
Along with excellent written and spoken communication skills, you will be proficient in designing and carrying out research as well as policy design and implementation. Experience of policy lobbying at a government or institutional level would be an added advantage. Importantly, you will require understanding on how Islamic economic and social policy contributes towards development, and be able to communicate this effectively within a diverse audience. The post holder will be willing and have the ability to travel abroad and act alone.
