Location: N’Djamena, Chad

Islamic Relief Worldwide is currently recruiting for a Country Director based in N’Djamena, Chad. The post holder is expected to represent Islamic Relief at all levels in-country; strengthen IR’s relations with the wider humanitarian and development community to consolidate and develop the visibility and image of the organisation. The job holder will deliver effective programmes according to the Country Programme and Regional Strategies, facilitate professional and systematic communication and cooperation between the different parts of the IR family. S/he is required to ensure maximum impact of the organisation’s work as well as lead, manage and develop staff in order to ensure that the country office is capable of fully achieving its agreed targets and risk manage, ensure compliance and quality improvement of the country programme.

The Country Director is responsible for managing 50 staff and a budget of £4m (subject to change). The post holder is required to provide direction to ensure the effectiveness and positive impact of the programmes implemented by the CO and sub-office(s). S/he is expected to spend at least 40% of time in the field meeting beneficiaries and field staff, and for ensuring that there is an appropriate contribution to policy development and advocacy at a regional and global level based on the experience of the country programme

The successful applicant will need to have previous work experience working as a Country Director or a senior management role with an International NGO, and knowledge of issues relating to community development, social protection, food security, urban poverty etc. The post holder should have good interpersonal skills including the ability to listen, sensitivity to others views and perspectives and conflict resolution. Demonstrable flexibility and energy are required for a high level of self-management and awareness. A working knowledge of a second/local language is desirable.

*National candidates are encouraged to apply but will only receive the salary not benefits.

*Benefits in this package for accompanied expats include an accommodation allowance, relocation allowance, education allowance and medical insurance cover. Likewise, for unaccompanied expats the aforementioned benefits will be included with 10% unaccompanied allowance and R&R.
