Rationale:
Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is a humanitarian and development organization based in Birmingham, United Kingdom and has been working in more than 40 countries, providing humanitarian aid during emergencies and working for long-term development of world’s poorest people.
The Community Resilience through Ecological Integrity is a special project of IR in the municipalities of Datu Hoffer and Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao. This project is funded by IR USA. This is a 24 month project which will end on August 31, 2023. There are 3 strategic objectives of the project. These are 1. Improves and sustains communities to access affordable and quality water and the economic security of households and communities. 2. Improves the capacity of the communities to promote ecological integrity, climate, and community resiliency. 3. Improves decision-making, community participation, and governance.
The project also hopes to deliver 3 major outcomes namely: 1. Improved and sustained access to affordable and quality water, the economic security of households and communities. 2. Improved capacity to promote ecological integrity, climate, and community resiliency. 3. Improved decision-making, community participation, and governance. Part of the outcome 2 is the establishment of bamboo nursery or bamboo propagation in the watershed protection area which is hailed by the IP Tribe called Teduray”. Now, the project is trying to come up with a Learning Research Paper on Bamboo Propagation. This learning research aims to study the impact of bamboo propagation on watershed protection, climate change adaptation, cultural preservation, and sustainable livelihood development within the Teduray Tribe in Bgy. Limpongo. By understanding the potential of bamboo in these areas, the research seeks to address pressing environmental and socio-economic challenges faced by the community. The study aims to identify best practices, lessons learned, and the interconnections between these dimensions to inform policy, interventions, and empower the community towards a sustainable and resilient future. Through this research, we aim to contribute to knowledge, promote cultural preservation, and support the development of sustainable livelihood options for the Teduray Tribe.
JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a qualified consultant to undertake a learning research paper focused on "Bamboo Propagation for Watershed Protection and Climate Change Adaptation, Cultural Preservation, and Sustainable Livelihood Development: A Case Study of the Teduray Tribe in Bgy. Limpongo, Datu Hoffer, Maguindanao Sur." The consultant will be responsible for conducting a comprehensive literature review, analyzing primary and secondary data, identifying best practices and lessons learned, and synthesizing findings into a research paper.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct a thorough literature review on bamboo propagation, watershed protection, climate change adaptation, cultural preservation, and sustainable livelihood development.
- Analyze primary and secondary data related to the case study of the Teduray Tribe, including data on bamboo propagation initiatives, community engagement, and outcomes.
- Identify best practices and lessons learned from the case study and literature review.
- Synthesize research findings and provide a comprehensive analysis.
- Develop a well-structured and coherent research paper that adheres to academic standards and addresses the objectives of the study.
- Collaborate with the project team for regular progress updates and feedback.
- Comply with Islamic Relief policies, especially Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy; and
- Any other related assignment given by IRPH staff.
DURATION
- The Consultancy engagement is for one month.

- The study will be conducted in Bgy. Limpongo, Datu Hoffer, Maguindanao Sur
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
- To assess the effectiveness of bamboo propagation as a strategy for watershed protection within the context of the Teduray Tribe in Bgy. Limpongo, Datu Hoffer, Maguindanao Sur.
- To examine the role of bamboo propagation in enhancing climate change adaptation capabilities of the Teduray Tribe and its impact on their resilience.
- To explore how bamboo propagation contributes to the preservation of the Teduray Tribe's cultural heritage and traditional knowledge.
- To evaluate the potential of bamboo propagation as a sustainable livelihood option for the Teduray Tribe and its implications for poverty alleviation and economic empowerment.
- To identify best practices and lessons learned from bamboo propagation initiatives within the Teduray Tribe, providing insights for future research, interventions, and policy development.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong background in research, preferably with experience in bamboo propagation, watershed protection, climate change adaptation, cultural preservation, or sustainable livelihood development.
- Excellent writing skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information and present it in a clear and concise manner.
- Familiarity with academic writing standards and citation styles.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Previous experience in conducting case studies and literature reviews is highly desirable.
