Islamic Relief Worldwide is currently recruiting for the position of Head of Humanitarian Department based in Birmingham with extensive travelling in response to disasters/emergencies throughout the world. The post holder will support the strategic International Programmes Divisional work to ensure that the IRW’s relations with the wider humanitarian and development community and to consolidate and develop the visibility and image of the organisation. As Head of the Humanitarian Department they will oversee the disaster preparedness, risk reduction and timely and effective response to disasters in order to reduce suffering and loss of life and to deploy emergency personnel to the site of the crisis within 72 hours and by ensuring staff are recruited and retained for emergency programmes.
It is essential that the candidate has a professional qualification in humanitarian/development studies a business management degree would be desirable, a well developed understanding of international development and humanitarian work including experience of maintaining global and local partnership working. It is essential oral and written communication skills in English and it would be desirable for a second language would be desirable and the ability to travel extensively and at short notice.
