Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is currently recruiting for the position of project archivist with primary responsibility for developing Islamic Relief’s archive collection as a unique knowledge resource.
The project archivist will lead on the protection and preservation of Islamic Relief’s documented institutional memory including developing and implementing storage plans for archives in a variety of formats, and advising the global Islamic Relief family (including field and partner offices) on matters relating to archives in their care. The project archivist will manage the transfer of physical archives and records currently stored in the United Kingdom to a new storage facility, this will include applying retention and disposal policies to ensure archives are identified and protected and redundant information is disposed appropriately.
The project archivist will facilitate access to archives in order to contribute to organisational / sector learning and research and internal business development. This will include appraising, organising, cataloguing and packaging archives to recognised professional standards and making high quality finding aids available.
The project archivist will help Islamic Relief promote its work and values by raising awareness of its archives and history through outreach activities and will develop and implement means to further document, capture and disseminate knowledge such as oral history and digitisation programmes. Working in a small team, the project archivist will also provide information governance support to the Islamic Relief family when required.
It is essential that the candidate has a postgraduate qualification in archives management, experience of cataloguing archives using recognised standards and managing archive projects. The candidate must be self-motivated with excellent planning and organisation skills, and be able to work with minimum supervision as required. The candidate must understand importance of maintaining strict confidentiality with regard the information in their care. It would be desirable for the candidate to have knowledge and / or experience of working with digital archives and on oral history projects.
