Islamic Relief Worldwide is looking for an ambitious lawyer for its dynamic legal team based at our International Office in Birmingham. The Legal Counsel will be a key member of the legal team advising IRW on all aspects of its development and humanitarian work at a time of significant humanitarian need, as well as an increasingly complex international regulatory environments in which we operate. We are looking for a capable, self-motivated candidate who is looking for a fulfilling and influential role for one of the world’s largest independent and faith-based international NGOs, impacting the lives of millions globally.
The Legal Counsel role will be an integral part of IRW’s legal department and provide, with minimal supervision, legal advice to the organisation, both directly and through external lawyers. S/he, will play a key role in ensuring that IRW meets all of its legal obligations in its operations and in delivering our programmes around the world.. S/he will work with the other Legal Counsel and the Head of Governance to respond to legal issues that affect the Islamic Relief family of organisations.
More specifically, our new Legal Counsel will have wide ranging responsibilities including advising on the legal implications of organisational governance, establishing/registering operations in various jurisdictions around the world, advising on contracts, intellectual property matters, reputation management, policy advice, compliance with AML/CTF laws, oversight on commercial property matters, and will have contact with key regulators. You will also advise on commercial projects including partnerships, joint ventures and other collaborative agreements. A hugely varied and rewarding opportunity.
The successful candidate must be a Solicitor qualified in England and Wales with previous experience of working in a legal and compliance environment as a qualified lawyer and be committed to the organisations objectives, vision and mission. Experience of working in an in-house legal team is preferable. .
