INTRODUCTION

Islamic Relief Somalia Programme has an ongoing Drought Response for Vulnerable Populations in Somalia (DROPS) project for IDP communities in Baidoa, where 8 VSLA women business groups will be trained on how to use crafts/handcraft making. Thus the IGA/VSLA involves the establishment of 8 women groups as Village Savings and Loans Associations(VSLA) members; and the provision of start-up capital for 8 women groups each group comprising 10 members each and introduce them Technical training Craft making, Group leadership and elections, savings and credit policies, development of the VSLA constitution, Record keeping and how to manage a meeting, savings, loan disbursement, loan repayment and end of cycle share out; These activities have been selected so as to raise the purchasing power of the affected communities thereby enabling them to meet basic household needs. The purpose of this Craft component is threefold: to enable the poorest households to buy food and basic goods, to build women’s skills, and to recycle waste in a safe and efficient manner. The necessary market shed-IGA/VSLA women groups will be provided for this activity.

In this background, IRS is looking for an experienced, competent individual or a consultant organization to provide short-term training on weaving/handcrafting business development and financial literacy for 80 women in Baidoa.

Islamic Relief Somalia is requesting for proposal (RFP) for the expression of interest detailing your technical and financial proposal with clear timeline and results –

  1. Detailed narrative proposal of the training.
  2. Financial proposal/Budget breakdown
  3. Bank statement (latest)
  4. Training work plan
  5. Complete profile of company or detailed CV if an individual (master’s degree in one of the following social sciences, economic or entrepreneurship)
  6. Certificate of registration, tax compliance certificates-Federal Government of Somalia/Banadir Region registration.
  7. Relevant experiences and sample reports shared for work conducted as training consultancy (Technical experience, methodology, and contracts of previous works done)
  8. Registration certificates from the relevant line ministries of the company or proof of nationality if individual consultant.)
  9. Work plan depicting training modalities.

KEY ASSIGNMENTS

The trainer has to organize the training along with participants before conducting the training. The trainer will be at the site of the training every morning and will facilitate the training independently based on the agreed terms of reference (ToR). The main duties and responsibilities are mentioned below

  • Design training sessions, using various entrepreneurship modules, in consultation with the project Officer and Area Manager.
  • Training module preparation
  • Necessary preparation for training (logistic, administrative, and programmatic preparation) and planning for training
  • Community/Participant mobilization for organizing the training
  • Liaison with government ministries or line ministries and consultant firms (recruited by donor agency).
  • Training facilitation as per the training requirements
  • Settling the training bill vouchers with the finance unit
  • Necessary documentation and filling of the training documents
  • Ensuring the visibility of the training
  • Training materials handover etc.
  • Reporting and training database management.
  • Report
  • Provide all training requirements of the participants (hall hire, meals & transport re-fund) hence the consultant MUST provide an all-inclusive budget.

OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSIGNMENT

  1. The objective of this training is to equip IDP women with entrepreneurship skills that allow them to develop business ideas and start and manage businesses in their local areas.
  2. On completion of the training, all participants will:
    1. Be able to identify and develop different business ideas.
    2. Be able to conduct an assessment and select a feasible business idea.
    3. Be able to develop a bankable business plan.
    4. Receive a grant to start and improve the business
    5. Be able to address the most urgent need for business management

DELIVERABLES

  1. Training offered to 80 trainees rotating daily from business development (Entrepreneurship) to financial literacy sessions.
  2. Comprehensive training report with the evaluation results produced; including participants list per each training that is submitted within 14 days after the training to IRS.

TRAINING MATERIALS AND DOCUMENTATIONS.

The training material has to be understandable and written in Somali language to be understood by the trainees. The training material has to be drafted and approved by the Area Manager prior to usage. The trainer will provide/prepare the training module based on IRS expected outcomes, context, and level of participant. The training will be conducted in the local language.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

  1. Entrepreneurship Training plan and modules are properly designed, documented, and delivered.
  2. Training participants will develop a comprehensive business idea and understand business/shop management.
  3. Training participants will be able to utilize their financial literacy skills to start and run their business in a professional manner.

Budget

The budget for the training will cover the following.

  • Facilitators (3-day training offered to 80 trainees rotating daily from business development (Entrepreneurship) to financial literacy sessions).
  • Venue rents for 3 days
  • Provision of transport allowance of 80 participants for three (3) days.
  • Provision of refreshments for 80 participants for 3 days.
  • Stationery for the entire training.
